Primary Day’s Revised Mission Statement

You may have noticed if you have been on our website that Primary Day has a new, revised mission statement. Every ten years, when starting its AIMS (Association of Independent Maryland and DC Schools) self-study for reaccreditation, every school is asked to look at its mission statement and determine if it needs some updating. Thus, during the last school year the faculty, staff, and the Board of Trustees, examined our then current statement and determined it should in fact be revised to reflect The Primary Day of today. The Mission Committee of the self-study took that input and drafted a statement that went through a number of revisions based on further input. Finally, earlier this school year the Board of Trustees approved and adopted our new mission statement. We also created a new vision statement which very succinctly describes The Primary Day difference.

It’s not that our daily approach, curriculum, culture, or program are going to change. It’s that our new mission and vision statements better reflect our beliefs, goals, program, and culture. Here are the new statements:

Mission Statement of The Primary Day School
At The Primary Day School, we believe the earliest years of learning are the most transformative. Our robust and challenging curriculum for Pre-Kindergarten to Second Grade ignites children’s innate curiosity and sense of wonder. Led by early childhood experts, our developmentally-attuned program sets a strong academic foundation while honoring enduring traditions and values essential to social and emotional growth. The joyful magic of Beako, our mascot, and the strength of our nurturing, collaborative community inspire children to recognize the power of kindness, build their confidence, and discover their voices and gifts.

Primary Day: Where bright beginnings become brilliant tomorrows.

Vision Statement
The Primary Day School prepares children for a lifetime of learning by balancing strong academics with character development, while preserving the wonder, joy, and magic of childhood.

As a reminder, on March 11, I will be discussing with parents our new strategic plan and campus master plan. I will also be framing everything around our new mission statement. I hope to see you then.
